How It Works

Your Provider Owes You a Refund

You overpaid for your healthcare services and are owed a refund. Your healthcare provider has partnered with InstaMed to deliver refunds.

InstaMed Sends You a Refund Notification

If your healthcare provider is attempting to send you a refund, you will receive a refund notification via email or mail. The refund notification will include the name of the healthcare provider sending the refund, the amount of the refund and other helpful information.

Choose How You Would Like to Get Paid

Follow the instructions to select an available payment preference, including direct deposit.

InstaMed Delivers Your Refund

InstaMed will deliver your patient refund using the payment preference you selected.

If you did not select a payment preference, you will automatically be mailed a physical prepaid card.

Who is InstaMed?

InstaMed, a JP Morgan company, is a healthcare payments technology vendor that has partnered with your healthcare provider to issue patient refunds.

What is a patient refund and why did I get one?

A patient refund is the reimbursement of any excess payments made by a patient to a healthcare provider or medical facility. It typically occurs when a patient has overpaid for services rendered or when an insurance claim has been processed and resulted in a credit balance.

I received a refund notification. How do I collect my payment?

I received an email notification.

  • After receiving an email, you can follow the "Accept payment" button
  • The code should automatically populate
  • To accept your payment, you can either log into an existing InstaMed account or create a new one. If you already have an InstaMed account, you can sign in and collect your payment, regardless of whether it's from the same provider or a new provider.

I received a mail notification.

  • After receiving the mailed letter, follow the instructions listed at the bottom of the page
  • The code should automatically populate
  • To accept your payment, you can either log into an existing InstaMed account or create a new one. If you already have an InstaMed account, you can sign in and collect your payment, regardless of whether it's from the same provider or a new provider.

If you don’t take any action on the refund, it will be sent to you as a prepaid card in the mail.

Why did I receive a prepaid card in the mail?

When you are issued a patient refund, InstaMed sends you a payment notification by email and/or mail. The payment notification will give you the option to select your payment delivery preference. If no delivery preference is selected, the payment type will be defaulted to prepaid card and sent by standard mail to your address.

I have questions about how to use my prepaid card. What should I do?

Are there any fees to use the prepaid card?

You will not incur any fees for regular use of your prepaid card; however, fees for international purchases, inactivity fees, and out-of-network ATM fees may apply.

I received a prepaid card and would prefer another type of payment. What are my options?

In the event you received a prepaid card, but prefer another form of payment you have several options:

  • Register the card via prepaid.chase.com and transfer the balance, free of charge, to your bank account
  • Visit an ATM and convert the balance of the card to cash
  • Contact JPMorgan Chase 1-888-252-3231 and request a check
What should I do if I disagree with the amount of the patient refund?

Please contact your healthcare provider directly if you have questions about the amount of your refund. They will have the most accurate and up-to-date information related to their specific refund policies and procedures.
